Pottery Mugs
Where and how can I learn to make my own ceramic coffee mugs?
I'm 17, graduating soon and I can't decide exactly what I want to be. I need a creative, artistic job. I was looking at etsy.com and I saw the ceramic mugs section under pottery, and I felt like I discovered my calling. I would love to make and sell my own ceramic mugs, but I know nothing about pottery.
I also don't know where to find a place that teaches pottery (I live in the Central Valley area, in California).
Should I try to search for a place? Most seem like they're designed for children to paint, not actually make the pottery. Or should I look for supplies and books to learn how to make my own work? Thank you!
In the Central Valley or nearby you should be able to find craft guilds that can offer you classes and access to kilns as you build up expertise to the point you invest in your own set up. What you found with kids painting is the hobby of decorating bisque fired slip cast ceramics and you want to do pottery that is either thrown or built in other ways.
I would suggest as a starting point you go and look at the sample videos and lessons at Ceramic Arts Daily http://ceramicartsdaily.org/ and go from there.
